Just like the rest of us, our dogs love a sweet treat! I’ve done the leg work and found some of the best ice cream shops in Philadelphia that offer dog-friendly ice cream. All the shops listed below offer dog-friendly ice cream that closely resembles human ice cream. Sure, pup cups of whipped cream are always a nice spur-of-the-moment treat for your dog – but if you’ve ever wished to go on an ice cream date with them, the following places are what you’ve been looking for!

Salty Paws is the first official dog ice cream bar in Philadelphia. They are located in Philadelphia’s famous Rittenhouse Square (and even have a location in Stone Harbor, NJ!) Their dog-friendly ice cream and all of their other treat offerings are lactose-free. Their ice cream bar is my favorite part, and a unique element, of this business – as they make all different types of ice cream flavors for your dog to try, including a Philly Cheesesteak flavor, and they even offer fun toppings for their ice cream scoops so you can really spoil your pup. There’s a small seating area next to other cool treats and items they sell, where you and your dog can sit and enjoy their tasty treats. You can also check out their Instagram to see any of their fun, dog-friendly events coming up! If you want to pick up some doggie ice cream for later, or as a gift, they have powdered ice cream to-go cups that you can make at home.

The Igloo is a great South Philly dessert shop with various sweet treat options – from ice cream to Italian ice, cookies, and so much more! Upon stopping at The Igloo to get whatever dessert your heart desires, make sure to grab one of their free Pup Cups for your dog!! They have a walk-up ordering window available, so you don’t have to leave your dog outside while you order – but if you do choose to go in, they also have a Puppy Parking area. Their Pup Cups are a dog-friendly yogurt-based treat that is available in two options – Greek Yogurt Pup Cup and Peanut Butter Yogurt Pup Cup. If you can’t make it into their shop, you can order both treats for you and your furry friends through GrubHub, DoorDash, Uber Eats, or Caviar!

Milk Jawn is a premium ice cream shop located in South Philadelphia that offers dog-friendly ice cream cups! While their daily unique flavors menu is to die for, I was more excited by their doggie ice cream! Milk Jawn allows you to bring your dog into the ice cream shop to enjoy their ice cream cup. Their dog ice cream cups are ready to go in their freezer, so you can make a quick stop in. Milk Jawn’s Pup Cups are made with peanut butter, banana, and yogurt.

Just this spring Van Leeuwen collaborated with Ollie, a dog food brand, to create their first-ever dog-friendly ice cream pint! Their limited edition dog ice cream is a pint of banana flavor nondairy ice cream base with swirls of peanut butter within it. The Van Leeuwen ice cream is made with coconut cream, oat milk, peanut butter, and bananas. If you can’t stop into one of the three Van Leeuwen Philadelphia-based shops, the Ollie collab is available both in-store and online at Petco. Now you and your dog can both enjoy pints of ice cream at home on the couch watching your favorite show.

Ben & Jerry’s is of course known for their endless ice cream flavor options – but did you know that they also offer dog ice cream pints?! They offer two different flavors- Rosie’s Batch and Pontch’s Mix. Rosie’s Batch is a pumpkin flavor dog dessert with chunks of mini cookies mixed in, while Pontch’s Mix is a peanut butter and pretzel swirl ice cream. You can buy these flavors at the Ben & Jerry’s shop in West Philadelphia, OR they also sell them at stores like Target & Petco. The West Philadelphia ice cream shop is located on UPenn’s campus and is open all week from 11 AM-10 PM.

Next door to The Franklin Fountain, at their Franklin Ice Cream Bar, you’ll find Fido Freezers, a dairy-free dog ice cream sandwich. Fido Freezers are available in two flavors – Bacon Cheddar and Peanut Butter Oatmeal. Meanwhile at Philadelphia’s most famous ice cream shop, The Franklin Fountain, large cups of their handmade whipped cream are available for dogs for only $3.50. This is an exception to our pup cup rule since it’s handmade, a large portion and delicious. If you’re walking through the city on a hot day and your dog needs a drink, Franklin Fountain is the place to go, as they have a water fountain with a dog bowl available. So next time you’re in Old City and you want to grab ice cream for the whole family, make sure to stop inside Franklin Fountain and grab a handmade pup cup!
